John C. Clegg Scholarship Endowment Fund
The John C. Clegg Scholarship Endowment Fund, managed by The Columbia Foundation since its inception in 2000, awards scholarships to graduating Columbia Clippers seniors for the purchase of college textbooks. In 2003, the Fund expanded its outreach into the broader community. In partnership with the Columbia Association Aquatics Department, the Fund awards scholarships to financially disadvantaged children for private swim lessons and pool passes to each participant upon completion of the lessons. The Fund directly benefits swimmers and students living in Howard County and depends on the generosity of the swimming community and its supporters to meet its annual goals. A tax deductible donation can be made at any time, to The Columbia Foundation, clearly identified as being for the John C. Clegg Scholarship Endowment Fund. Ask your employer for a matching donation if it is a company policy.
The recipients of the college textbook award must have continuous participation in the Columbia Clippers swim program for 9th through 12 grade, have a 2.5 or above grade point average, and have acceptance at an accredited two or four year college or university. The award is presented to each recipient at their high school awards assembly.
To apply for the college textbook scholarship award, complete the John C. Clegg Scholarship Endowment Fund Application, attach a high school transcript and an acceptance letter from an accredited college or university. Submit all required information to the Columbia Clippers Parent Advisory Board in the CAA Locked Box at the Swim Center. All applications should be received no later than April 30th. The Columbia Clippers Parent Advisory Board reviews all applications and recommends award recipients to the Columbia Association for a cash disbursement.
Many of the Clippers award recipients continue to coach, teach lessons, and/or swim for a college or university team. We thank them for their continued support and wish them well in their future endeavors.
